Agenda Items:

  • School Safety Plan Review – To access the school safety report visit canyonsdistrict.org/safe-schools/
    • Concerns, plans, progress from last year:
      • Last years #1 Safety Concern was pick-up and drop-off procedures
        • Cars being left unattended in drop off zone
          • 6 parking stalls added for 15-minute drop off to address unattended cars
      • New lines painted and signs updated in English and Spanish
      • Beth mentioned the concern of cars not coming to complete stop at Monroe/8600 S. stop sign
        • Hopeful for a flashing stop sign to create more safety – Beth reports Midvale City is aware of this concern and is working on a solution.
    • School Safety Plan Highlights:
      • New safety measures in CSD ie Evacuation, Hold, Run Hide Fight, Secure, and Lockdown procedures in place
      • New intercom system during emergencies (automatic emergency procedure updates throughout building in real time) in place and working efficiently
    • What is the SCC’s #1 safety concern? The area between Copperview Elementary and Copperview Recreation Center –  increase in gun violence and gang involvement and how the SCC can impact this issue
      • Idea to bring Latinos in Action (LIA) or Peer Leadership Team (PRT) from Hillcrest or Jordan High to Copperview
      • New Midvale City Coalition led by Vanessa Guevara – Mayor Stevenson encouraged Copperview SCC members to attend
      • Idea to educate parents on the risk of gang involvement and how social media plays a part
    • Action Plan:
      • Family Matters Presentation or evening Choose Gang Free event
    • Are there other primary concerns?
      • Ongoing digital citizenship
    • How will the SCC share safety resources with parents/families?
      • Provide 211 flier to families
    • Promote SafeUT to school community

  • Land Trust Plan Review
    • Reviewed 2023-2024 School Year Land Trust Plan
    • Considerations:
      • The decreased need for Behavior Consultation is anticipated, consider using some of this $ for math intervention
      • RULER Curriculum annual cost will go down from $6000 to $1000, consider putting these additional funds towards math intervention
      • Colleen Smith will work on putting these suggestions into a new plan for next meeting for SCC to review
