Family Engagement Policy

Definition of Parent and Family Engagement

Parental engagement means the participation of parents in regular, two-way, and meaningful communication involving student academic learning and other school activities, including ensuring—

(A)  parents and families play an integral role in assisting their child’s learning;

(B)  parents and families are encouraged to be actively involved in their child’s education in school;

(C)  that parents and families are full partners in their child’s education and are included, as appropriate, in decision-making and on advisory committees to assist in the education of their child;

Copperview Elementary School will implement required school parental engagement policy components as follows:

  1. Each year, the Parent Teacher Association (PTA), School Community Council (SCC), and Building Leadership Team (BLT) will revise and approve a new Parent Engagement Policy and Parent Compact.
  1. Copperview Elementary School will take the following actions to distribute to parents of participating children and the local community the Parental Engagement Policy:
    • The School Parental Engagement Policy will be available to parents on the website (due to COVID-19, it will not be distributed at Back to School Night, Back to School Title I Parent Meeting or at Parent Teacher Conferences that were held virtually)
  1. CopperviewElementary School will periodically update its Parent Engagement Policy to meet the changing needs of parents/families and the school through:
    • School Community Council meetings
    • Regular Title I meetings
    • PTA meetings
  1. Copperview Elementary School typically convenes an annual meeting to inform parents of the following: Due to COVID-19 a video presentation was made available on the website.
    • That Copperview Elementary School participates in Title I
    • The requirements of Title I
    • Rights of parents at a Title 1 school
    • Meetings will be held at various and convenient times to encourage parents to attend
  1. Copperview Elementary School will provide information about Title I programs to parents and families of participating children in a timely manner through:
    • Automated phone system (Skylert)
    • Memos
    • Newsletters
    • Peachjar
    • ClassDOJO
    • Web page
  1. Copperview Elementary School will provide parents and families of participating children with a description and explanation of the curriculum in use at the school, the forms of academic assessment used to measure student progress, and the proficiency levels students are expected to meet through:
    • Regular parent/teacher conferences
    • Progress reports distributed 3 times per year
    • Parents can request a meeting with the student’s teacher, the principal, and other staff as appropriate when needed.

Responsibilites of High Student Academic Acheivement

  1. Copperview Elementary School will build upon strong parent/family engagement with cooperation, communication, and commitment between parents, families, the school, and the community to support student academic achievement through the following activities below (Due to COVID-19 some of the items list may be post-poned):
    • Parent and family trainings
    • All Pro Dads
    • Moms Matter
    • Family Nights
    • Family Learning Center (Located inside Copperview Elementary – English, Computer, Plazas, and Parent Talks)
    • On-going Parent Communication
    • Parent Teacher Conferences
    • SCC (School Community Council)
    • PTA (Parent Teacher Association)
    • Classtag Communication App
  1. Copperview Elementary will incorporate the school-parent compact as a component of its School Parent Engagement Policy:
    • The school-parent compact will available on the school webpage.
    • Associated with regular parent/teacher/student conferences, the school-parent compact will be sent home to be completed and signed by the teacher, the parent(s), and the student.
  1. Copperview Elementary will, with the assistance of the district, provide assistance to parents of children served by the school in understanding topics such as the following:
    • The State’s academic content standards
    • The State’s student academic achievement standards
    • The State and local academic assessments including alternate assessments
    • The requirements of Title I
    • How to monitor their child’s progress, and help at home
  1. Parents will receive training and necessary information on the topics above through:

Copperview Elementary will actively solicit feedback from parents and students through surveys, focus groups, PTA and SCC.  Any parent may submit comments to the school at any time through setting up a meeting with an administrator or provide their feedback or concerns in writing to administration.
