School Community Council (SCC) Minutes

April 20, 2021

Members Present:  Dolores Gonzalez, Lizeth Flores, Josie McClendon, Jeri Rigby, Cassie Kapes, Interpreter, Sandra Mendoza, Yazmin Mendoza.

2. Things to Consider
   1. Parent Engagement
      1. FLC – Ongoing classes, Literacy Program
         1. love the literacy program
      2. New Marquee coming for Copperview
         1. has been broken for a while and soon will be replaced
      3. Home Communication – weekly information
         1. sent via email and ClassDOJO
   2. Safety
      1. Earthquake Drill
         1. The Great Shakeout – Statewide Practice
      2. Focus on using crosswalks – numerous community reminders
         1. Jeri has sent out many reminders
         2. many adults and students not being safe
         3. suggestion for safety patrol next year
      3. Scooters – not to ridden on school property – Class Dojo
         1. Students need many reminders to walk not ride it
      4. Desire to have additional no parking space in front of the school
         1. On the east side of monroe at the south side of the school
      5. Public Health Emergency (information for employees only)
         1. A drill that allows us to deliver information about how we communicate in an emergency situation.
   3. TSSP – Focus for 2021-22
      1. Proposed Overarching Goal for 2021-2022 – submitted plan – YAY. Intensify instructional delivery (through teacher clarity, PBIS, positive relationships, and embedded ELD practices, particularly structured classroom discussion) across content areas (including ELA & Math) with teams using data.
      2. Aligned with current goals & systems
         1. Increased emphasis with ELD practices in ELA and Math – intensive focus on structured academic discussions
         2. Continued focus on relationships, PBIS, Social Emotional Learning (SEL)
         3. Continued focus on teacher clarity – consider learning intentions & success criteria
      3. THANKS to the SCC – Signatures for TSSP for 2020-21 Plan
   4. PTA at Copperview
      1. New President – Candace Erickson

   5. Summer Offerings
      1. Summer Feed at Copperview – Dates and info coming, available to anyone in the community.
      2. Summer School – information forthcoming
      3. Community Garden – 1st and 2nd grade harvesting seeds to plant
   6. Boundary Change Process
      1. Community meetings in fall, 2021 – Exact dates TBA
      2. Support for community involvement, including meetings with translation
