Message from Mrs. Rigby, Copperview Principal

Dear Copperview Families,

January, 2021 was a wonderful month at Copperview Elementary. As we celebrated the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday, I reflected on his words stating, “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” I continue to be so impressed with how our community definitely “measures up” as we all work together during these challenging times. The diligence, sacrifices, hard work and flexibility of our staff, students and community are tremendous traits, and contribute to the positive outcomes we’re seeing at Copperview.

Each day is filled with awesome learning opportunities – including a focus not only on reading, writing, math and science, but also a focus on our social emotional learning or SEL. SEL helps students learn and then apply skills to understand and manage emotions, set goals, foster positive relationships and practice making good decisions. Please ensure that your students attend every day so they can learn the critical skills needed for them to be successful. We miss your students when they’re gone, and we encourage you to prioritize your child’s education.

We’re looking forward to reviewing our academic, behavioral and social emotional learning progress when you visit with your students’ teachers during the upcoming Parent Teacher Conferences. Parent Teacher Conferences are scheduled for February 24 & 25,and will be held virtually. Teachers will be calling to schedule appointments for you to participate either over the phone or through a video conference.

As always, please know how grateful we are to work with you and your students at Copperview Elementary.

Principal Jeri Rigby

Valentine’s Day the COVID Way!

Because COVID can’t kill all the fun! We want to make sure everyone stays safe this Valentine’s Day. In order to do this, please have your students bring their Valentine’s Day cards to school on Monday, February 8th. Teachers will “quarantine” the students’ cards for 72 hours and on Thursday, February 11th students will be able to pass them out to their peers. If students choose to bring small treats, we ask that the treats are store-bought and individually wrapped. Those treats will also need to be at the school no later than Monday, February 8th to be distributed on Thursday, February 11th. We are excited that Valentine’s Day will be the final day of our week long RANDOM ACT OF KINDNESS WEEK and we hope all our students feel a little love this Valentine’s Day.

Family Math Challenge

1) A card store sold 6 Valentine cards on Thursday and 36 Valentine cards on Friday. How many times more Valentine cards did they sell on Friday than on Thursday?

2) Jennifer bought 7 packs of stickers with 11 stickers in each pack. How many stickers did Jennifer buy?

3) I have 4 sides all the same size and I have 4 corners. What am I?

4) My sister and I have 7 feet of licorice. I have 4 feet, how many feet does my sister have?

5) It’s 1 o’clock in the afternoon and you are going to a Valentine’s Day party in 4 hours. What time are you going to the Valentine’s Day party?
