Congratulations 5th Grade Team
Our 5th grade team was selected as one of sixteen teaching teams throughout Canyons School District to receive an Innovation Grant worth $5,403 for sphero robots. Innovation Grants are awarded annually thanks to generous donations, community partnerships, and support of donors, via the Education Foundation’s annual golf tournament.
Indoor Recess Guide
In recent years we have seen inversions, fires and other factors affect our outdoor air quality. There is concern about the effects of poor air quality on children’s health and their ability to breathe easily. Because of this, our school uses the Utah Recess Guidance criteria for indoor recess due to air quality.
Parents, with advice from your health care provider, need to contact the school secretary or nurse if your child is “sensitive” to poor air quality. Sensitive children may include those with significant or poorly controlled asthma, cystic fibrosis, chronic lung disease, congenital heart disease, compromised immune systems, or other respiratory problems.
Employee Spotlight - Riann Lutz, School Psychologist
This week we celebrate National School Psychology Week by recognizing our amazing school psychologist Riann Lutz. Riann supports students by helping them identify ways to manage their emotions. She teaches students how to use these skills so that they are able to access their educational environment. Riann additionally supports students in making friends and solving conflicts.
Prior to working at Copperivew, she worked in school settings supporting students with autism and behavioral difficulties in Salt Lake City School District and at Carmen B. Pingree: Children’s Autism Center. Riann spent her first year as a school psychologist working in a middle school and made the switch over to Copperview last year.
When not at school some of Riann’s favorite activities are mountain biking, skiing, yoga, and camping. She also likes to spend time reading and painting. Riann has two cats named Walter and Laney, and they are the best!
