3:45pm Motion to Begin: A motion was made to begin meeting at 3:47pm. It was seconded and approved.

Approve Previous SCC Minutes: SCC reviewed previous meeting minutes and approved them.

Approve Previous Year’s  Land Trust Final Report: Principal Ashbridge presented data from the previous year to finalize the Land Trust Report.  He emphasized that although Copperview did not meet the goals, it did show good improvement and student growth.  There was discussion surrounding the culture of reading and how many students read independently. Principal Ashbridge also highlighted that Acadience measures foundational reading and it only provides one area of measurement. He stated that it is important to look at the entire scope with student work completion, attendance, problem solving, and interacting with their peers.

Set priorities for new Land Trust goal:

  • The SCC discussed what the community felt are the priorities for Copperview to improve with student performance. Ms. Hansen advocated for allocations for staffing to lower group sizes and provide more specialized interventions for students. The goal was to ensure that students enter into the upper grades with a greater foundation in literacy and math.
  •  The SCC also emphasized the need to continue to improve student to student relationships as well as push the rigor so that students leaving Copperview in 5th Grade are producing the same level of work as other higher performing schools.
  • Ms. Dickey inquired about student attendance and how many students are missing school due to ICE and what is going on in the news. Principal Ashbridge stated that he did not have exact numbers, but has been informed from the attendance secretaries that there are some families that are afraid to send their children to school. They are not afraid of something happening to their child, but worry that something will happen to them and their child will not have anyone to take care of them.
    • Principal Ashbridge said he will look into it and see if he can get a better account of who is impacted by this. The SCC discussed that this may be an area of need for the school.
  • Principal Ashbridge proposed allocating resources to incentivising independent reading or reading outside of the core curriculum. His reasoning was that it would help build a positive culture around reading. It would set up more discussions around what students are reading as well as build their schema, vocabulary, and give them more practice in reading.
