Dear Copperview Families,

Happy Spring Break!  No school next week, April 4 – 8.  Congratulation to Mrs. Walker for being awarded Copperview’s 2021- 2022 Teacher of the Year.   Check out this awesome video that honors her.  Mrs. Walker we love you and are so glad you chose Copperview as your home; we could not ask for a more patient, loving, kind, passionate, dedicated individual to be our Teacher of the Year!  Thanks for all you do for our students, families, and school.

5th Grade Maturation Program

On Thursday, April 21st we will have our Maturation Program for fifth-grade students and their families.  The aim with this program is to provide consistent, sensitive and approved health and maturation instruction. Both girls and boys presentations are conducted by Carrie Ann Kemp, a popular professional speaker who has been educating and entertaining young audiences, and their parents, for more than 20 years. While growing up can be hard, talking about it needn’t be. Permission forms will be sent on ParentSquare after Spring Break.

Parents/families are HIGHLY ENCOURAGED and INVITED to attend this program with their child on Thursday, April 21st.

  • Girls Program – 1:15 – 2:15pm
  • Boys Program – 2:20pm – 3:00pm

ROCK THE TESTS!!!

With only seven weeks left in the school year, it is time to start thinking about year-end testing.  Students in grades K-5 will be participating in Acadience testing in April,   3-5 grades will be taking their RISE tests in April and May, and our Kindergarteners will be closing their year with the KEEP.

WHY DO SCHOOLS TEST?

Testing has always been integral to education. Assessments inform instruction by helping teachers know if educational goals are being met. They’re an indicator of what’s working in the classroom and what can be done differently. Testing also gives parents an independent measure of their child’s learning, answering the question: Is my child on target and doing well compared to his or her peers?

How should students prepare? Practice for the test is the instruction students receive throughout the school year—the skills and knowledge they acquire each day. There are a few things, however, families can do to prepare for test day at home:

  • Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep and eats a healthy breakfast
  • Make the morning of testing as relaxing as possible by arriving to school on time.
  • Encourage children to focus and pace themselves without rushing. It’s important to take your time, and read each question carefully.
  • Remind children that if the test questions seem hard, that means they’re doing well. Just like the ACT college entrance exam, the RISE test is computer adaptive, which means it adapts to the examinee’s abilities by proposing harder questions when a student gets something correct, and easier questions when the student gives a wrong answer.

What about kids who have a history of test-anxiety? It’s important to strike a balance with children. You don’t want them to brush off the test. On the other hand, you don’t want to stress them out. How you approach the conversation will differ from child to child. But we like to describe testing skills as life skills. In our professional lives, there is pressure to perform and meet deadlines, and testing is no different. It’s really about demonstrating competency. They’ve worked hard all year in class. Now is their chance to show how much they’ve learned.

Copperview Cougars, let’s rock the tests and show what you know!!!

Digital Citizenship

We balance the food we eat to stay healthy. We also need to balance our media use. Media includes the shows and videos we watch, the video games and apps we play, and the music we listen to. Try completing a media balance checkup with your family to determine together if the way your family uses media feels balanced and healthy. For this Common Sense activity, visit cnyns.org/3iXRoJH.
