School Community Council - Minutes

Members Present:  Jenna, Jeri, Cassie, Dolores, Lizeth, Sandra, Yazmin, Josie

  1. Welcome & Introductions
  2. Things to Consider
    1. Halloween at Copperview – Costumes, Classroom Parties, no outside food or volunteers
    2. Red Ribbon Week (see below) – Drug Free Week
      1. Josie has explained Red Ribbon Week to students this week in Brain Boosters, Prizes will be given to most creative and decked out costumes
    3. Digital Citizenship – Brief Update
      1. Ideas: Cyberbullying – how to respond to cyberbullying, how to block Apps on computers/devices at home, videos to parents through ClassDojo
      2. Brain Boosters will start in November with Digital Citizenship Lessons
    4. Learning Opportunities Confirmation – November 1 – 8
      1. We will be reaching out to parents that have online students that are not participating regularly to notify them of this opportunity to change their child’s learning path.
      2. Josie asked about physical distancing with possibility of more students coming back – we will do the best we can to keep children physically distanced, but 3 – 6 feet has never been a guarantee. 
  1. Parent Compact – sending home this week
    1. Going home tomorrow – if parents/students want to sign they can, it’s not mandatory.
    2. We’ll also provide to online teachers to send out via CANVAS.

      1. 23 – Community Free Fresh Food Distribution – 11:00am – 1:00pm – Drive Thru
      2. 26 – 29 – Red Ribbon Week (Online students can also participate): Monday – Wear Red, Tuesday – Pajama Day,  Wednesday – Crazy Hair, Thursday – Halloween Costumes – PTA will have a small treat for every child to take home.
      3. 27 – Mobile Food Bank – 3:00-4:00 – Rear of the school
    2. November
      1. 5 – School Pictures – Make Up Day
      2. 17 – SCC
      3. 13 – PTA
      4. 18 – Mobile Vision & Medical Clinics
        1. 8:00am – 3:00pm
        2. Must make an appointment for Mobile Medical Clinic
        3. Anyone in the community can make an appointment for the Medical Clinic
        4. Vision clinic is for students, if there is room for adults we will open it up
      5. 24 – Turkey Trot – 1:30, Mobile Food Bank – 3:00-4:00
        1. Grades will run in a race in the back of school, boy and girl winner in each grade will win a turkey
        2. Parents are welcome to come see the student run outside.
      6. 25-26 – Thanksgiving Recess

    2. Holiday Food Bags – still pending on whether those will be available this year.
    3. Coats will be available by request for any child that needs one.
